Drug Description:

This medicine is used to treat vaginal infection caused by certain bacteria.Store between 59 to 86 degrees F. Protect from freezing.How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Use this medicine exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. This medicine is for intravaginal use only. Do not take orally or use on the skin or eyes. This medicine is to be applied in the vagina once or twice a day for 5 days in a row. For once-a-day dosing, it should be used at bedtime. Do not engage in vaginal intercourse while taking this medicine. Contact your health care provider at once if you experience numbness or tingling of your arms or legs or seizures. This medicine may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparation or dietary supplement. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of this medicine. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications you are in the first 3 months of pregnancy This medicine should not be administered to patients with active neurological disorders or a history of blood dyscrasia, hypothyroidism and hypoadrenalism.Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have any other medical condition like kidney disease, liver disease, blood disorders, neurological disorders or pancreatic diseaseThis medicine has been shown to cause cancer in animal studies. Do not use this medicine if it is not necessary. Use this medicine only for its intended use. How metronidazole kills susceptible bacteria is not fully known. It is thought that it stops the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.Most severe:  Seizures; nerve problems (numbness/abnormal sensations).Most common:  Vaginal discharge; cervical/vaginal inflammation/infection; vaginal irritation; pelvic discomfort; stomach discomfort; headache; nausea; vomiting.Other:  Unusual taste; diarrhea; decreased appetite; gas; thirstiness; dry mouth; dizziness; depression; itching; rash; cramping; tiredness; dark urine.
