Drug Description:

This medicine is used to manage initial genital herpes infections and certain non-life-threatening herpes simplex virus infections in patients with weakened immune systems.Store between 59 and 77 degrees F in a dry place. Replace cap after each use.How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get your prescription refilled. Use exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. This medicine is for external use only. Do not use this medicine in or near the eyes. Therapy with this medicine should start as soon as possible after the onset of signs and symptoms of herpes. This medicine must thoroughly cover all lesions. A one-half inch ribbon of ointment will cover about 4 square inches. Use a finger cot or rubber glove when applying the ointment to avoid spreading infection. This medicine is not a cure for herpes simplex infections. Avoid sexual intercourse when lesions are present to prevent infecting your partner. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medication. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as possible, but not if it is almost time for the next application.Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicineBefore using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have any other medical conditionThis medicine is for external use only, avoid contact of this medicine with your eyes or mucous membranes of you body.
