What is Prilosec/Omeprazole used for?

This medicine is used in adults for the short-term treatment of active ulcers of the duodenum, active benign gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or stomach contents rising back into the food pipe), and erosive inflammation of the esophagus. This medicine is also used for the long-term treatment of conditions that increase gastric acid secretion (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). This medicine can also be used in combination with other medicines to treat and eliminate H. pylori infection and associated active ulcers of the duodenum.

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine you are allergic to any antibiotic, including penicillin, or are currently taking an antibiotic

What precautions should I follow when taking Prilosec/Omeprazole?

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to becoming pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Prilosec/Omeprazole?

Before starting treatment with this medicine for gastric ulcer, exclude out the possibility for gastric malignancy.

What are the side effects of Prilosec/Omeprazole?

Most severe:ÿ Severe allergic reaction.

Most common:ÿ Headache; dizziness; stomach pain; nausea.

Other: Malaise, aches and pain

How should I take Prilosec/Omeprazole?

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Swallow Capsule whole. Do not open, chew, or crush the Capsule. If you have difficulty swallowing the Capsule whole, talk with your health care provider. Take this medicine before eating. When this medicine is taken together with another medicine, clarithromycin, it should not to be used in pregnant women except in cases where no other medicine can be used. Antacids may be used while taking this medicine. Take this medicine at least 30 minutes before you take sucralfate (Carafate). Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
