Description

Indications

The combined use of spironolactone and hydrochlorothiazide is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. This medication is also utilized to manage edema resulting from several medical conditions, including kidney, liver, or heart disease.

Spironolactone belongs to a class of drugs known as aldosterone receptor antagonists, which stimulate the excretion of excess sodium and water from the body into the urine while reducing potassium loss. Hydrochlorothiazide falls under the category of diuretics (commonly referred to as ”water pills”) and functions by causing the kidneys to eliminate unnecessary salt and water from the body into the urine.

Uses and Dosage

Administer this medication orally, with or without food, once or twice daily or as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

In the event that you ingest this drug near bedtime, nocturia may occur. Take it at least four hours before sleeping.

The dosage is reliant on your medical condition and response to therapy. Consistently consume this medication to gain the maximum benefits. To facilitate memory retention, administer it at the same time(s) daily, regardless of whether you feel well or not, as individuals with hypertension may not experience symptoms.

If you concurrently consume certain medications that lower your cholesterol, take this product either at least four hours before or four to six hours after such medications.

Inform your physician if there is no improvement or if your condition worsens (such as high or increased blood pressure readings).

Caution

Prior to taking this medication, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you have any allergies, particularly to spironolactone or hydrochlorothiazide, or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients that can trigger allergic reactions or other issues.

Before using this medication, please discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider or pharmacist, particularly if you have any untreated salt or mineral imbalances, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, dehydration, lupus, gout, high levels of fats in the blood, decreased adrenal gland function (Addison’s disease), or skin cancer.

This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. The use of alcohol or marijuana may increase the likelihood of dizziness or drowsiness. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities that require alertness until you can do so safely.

To minimize the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, gradually rise from a seated or lying position. Significant loss of bodily fluids due to excessive sweating, vomiting, or diarrhea may also lower blood pressure and exacerbate dizziness. Be sure to consume ample fluids to prevent dehydration. If you are following a restricted fluid intake regimen, please seek further guidance from your doctor. Contact your doctor if you are unable to consume fluids or if you have persistent diarrhea or vomiting.

This medication may increase sensitivity to sunlight and the risk of skin cancer, particularly if taken for a prolonged period. Reduce your sun exposure, avoid tanning booths and sunlamps, apply sunscreen, and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Notify your doctor right away if you experience sunburn, skin blisters or redness, or notice any new or modified moles or skin lesions.

If you have diabetes, this product may affect your blood sugar. Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels as directed and discuss the results with your healthcare provider. Notify your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst or urination. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise routine, or diet.

This product may also impact the potassium levels in your blood. Prior to using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this medication, particularly those related to potassium, dizziness, or lightheadedness. Dizziness and lightheadedness can increase the risk of falls.

During pregnancy, use this medication only if clearly necessary. Discuss the benefits and risks with your doctor.
