Description

Indications

Biofreeze, made mainly of menthol derived either from mint oil or produced synthetically, is a substance that offers a cooling sensation when applied to the skin. This property makes it effective in alleviating pain in the tissues situated beneath the skin.

Menthol topical solutions are commonly used to provide temporary relief for a range of conditions, including minor arthritis pain, backaches, muscle or joint pain, and painful bruises.

Uses and Dosage

If you are using an over-the-counter product for self-treatment, carefully read and follow all instructions on the product package before using the medication.

If your doctor has prescribed this medication, be sure to use it according to their directions.

This medication is intended for topical use only. Apply it to the affected area no more than three to four times per day.

If using cream, gel, or liquid formulations, apply the medication gently and thoroughly. Some liquid formulations may need to be shaken before use. Allow the medication to dry completely before allowing others to touch the treated area.

After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using it to treat your hands. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. If contact occurs, rinse the affected area with plenty of water.

Do not apply the medication to serious burns or deep wounds. Do not tightly wrap or bandage the affected area, as this may increase the risk of side effects. You may cover the area loosely to protect clothing.

Heat can increase the risk of side effects, so avoid applying this medication before, during, or after activities that raise skin temperature, such as bathing, swimming, or heavy exercise. Wait until your skin has cooled before using the medication. Do not use sunlamps, tanning beds, hot water bottles, or heating pads/devices on the treated area.

If your condition persists for more than seven days, worsens, or recurs, please inform your doctor.
