Description

Indications

Balsalazide is indicated for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, a pathological condition characterized by inflammation and the formation of sores in the mucous lining of the colon and rectum. This medication is suitable for both adult patients and children aged 5 years and above.

Balsalazide functions as an anti-inflammatory agent within the body. Following its conversion to mesalamine, it effectively diminishes intestinal inflammation, alleviates symptoms such as diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and abdominal discomfort.

Uses and Dosage

Balsalazide is administered orally in the form of capsules. The typical dosage regimen involves taking it three times a day. Strictly follow the prescribed dosage of balsalazide, avoiding both excessive and insufficient intake, as well as refraining from deviating from the recommended frequency of administration as instructed by your doctor.

Normally, balsalazide is taken for a duration of 8 weeks, with the possibility of extending the treatment period up to 12 weeks.

Continue taking balsalazide even if you start to feel better, do not discontinue its use without consulting your doctor.

The capsules should be swallowed whole, without splitting, chewing, or crushing them. In cases where swallowing the capsules is challenging or when administering the medication to a child, an alternative method involves opening the capsules and dispersing the contents over 2 teaspoonfuls (approximately 10 mL) of applesauce. Consume the mixture immediately and swallow it, or if necessary, chew the mixture.
