Description

Indications

Fluvastatin is prescribed in conjunction with dietary adjustments, weight loss, and regular exercise to mitigate the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is also employed to reduce the likelihood of necessitating heart surgery in individuals diagnosed with heart disease or those prone to its development.

As a member of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor class, also known as statins, fluvastatin functions by impeding the production of cholesterol within the body. By doing so, it diminishes the accumulation of cholesterol on arterial walls, thus preventing potential blockages in blood flow to essential organs.

Uses and Dosage

Fluvastatin is available in two oral forms: capsules and extended-release tablets. For the capsule, it is typically taken once daily at bedtime or twice a day, with or without food. The extended-release tablet is usually taken once a day, also with or without food.

To ensure optimal effectiveness, take fluvastatin at approximately the same time each day. Take fluvastatin exactly as directed by your healthcare provider, refraining from taking more or less of it or altering the frequency of administration without proper medical guidance.

For the extended-release tablets, swallow them whole and avoid splitting, chewing, or crushing them.

Initially, your doctor may start you on a low dose of fluvastatin and gradually increase it, but not more frequently than once every 4 weeks.

Continue taking fluvastatin even if you feel well. Refrain from discontinuing the medication without consulting your doctor.
