Description

Indications

Indapamide serves as a treatment for high blood pressure and effectively reduces excess fluid in the body (edema) linked to heart failure. By lowering high blood pressure, it aids in the prevention of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney issues. Belonging to the diuretics or “water pills” class of drugs, indapamide operates by promoting increased urine production, facilitating the elimination of surplus salt and water from the body. This mechanism helps alleviate symptoms like shortness of breath and swelling in the ankles or feet, offering significant relief to patients.

Uses and Dosage

Administer this medication orally with or without food, following your doctor’s instructions, typically once daily in the morning. Taking the drug too close to bedtime may lead to the need to wake up during the night to urinate. Therefore, take it at least 4 hours before bedtime.

The prescribed dosage is contingent on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment.

For optimal results, take this medication regularly and consistently at the same time each day. Even if you feel well, continue the course as directed, since individuals with high blood pressure may not experience noticeable symptoms. The full benefits of the drug may take several weeks to manifest.

If you are also taking specific medications to lower cholesterol (such as bile acid-binding resins like cholestyramine or colestipol), ensure to administer indapamide at least 4 hours before or after these medications.

Should your condition not improve or worsen, promptly inform your doctor for further evaluation and guidance.
