Description

Indications

Ketoconazole topical is indicated for the management of dandruff, providing relief from the associated symptoms of flaking, scaling, and itching. This medication is an azole antifungal agent, and exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting fungal growth. Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is also utilized for the treatment of pityriasis, a fungal skin infection characterized by a discolored appearance of the neck, chest, arms, or legs.

Uses and Dosage

To properly use this shampoo, thoroughly wet both the hair and scalp with water. Use an appropriate amount of shampoo to create sufficient lather for cleansing both the hair and scalp.

Massage the lather gently over the entire scalp before rinsing with warm water. In cases where directed by a medical professional, this process may need to be repeated. After the final rinse, dry the hair completely.

For the over-the-counter (1%) strength shampoo, apply the product to the hair, lather thoroughly, and rinse. Repeat this process before drying the hair after the second rinse.

When using the shampoo to treat skin conditions other than the scalp, wet the affected area and the surrounding healthy skin before applying the shampoo. Leave the shampoo lather in place for 5 minutes before rinsing it off with water.

The dosage, frequency of application, and duration of treatment will vary depending on the strength of the shampoo (2% or 1%) and the condition being treated. Follow your doctor’s instructions or the package directions carefully.

To avoid any potential irritation or harm, keep the shampoo away from your eyes. If it accidentally comes into contact with your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water. Do not use the shampoo if you have any broken or swollen skin on your scalp or skin.

If your condition persists for more than 2-4 weeks or worsens at any point during treatment, inform your doctor.
