Drug Description:

This medicine is used to treat mild to moderate inflammation of the colon or rectum (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease).Store between 68 and 77 degrees F. Once the foil-wrapped unit of 7 bottles is opened, all enemas should be used promptly. Contents of these enemas may darken with time. Slight darkening will not affect the strength of this medicine. Throw away enemas wiHow much medicine you use and how often you use it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Best results are achieved if the bowel is emptied immediately before using this medicine. Shake bottle well. Remove protective sheath from the applicator tip. Holding the bottle at the neck will not allow the medication to be discharged. The position most often used is to lay on the left side (to help flow into the sigmoid colon), with the lower leg extended and the upper right leg flexed forward for balance. An alternative is the knee-chest position. Gently insert the applicator tip in the rectum pointing toward the naval. Grasp the bottle firmly, then tilt slightly so that the nozzle is aimed toward the back, squeeze slowly to instill the medicine. Steady hand pressure will discharge most of the medicine. After using, withdraw the bottle and throw it away. Remain in position for at least 30 minutes after using this medicine to allow complete distribution of the medicine internally. Stay in the same position all night if possible. Use this medicine preferably at bedtime. This medicine may cause an acute intolerance syndrome. Stop taking this medicine and contact your health care provider at once if cramps, stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, fever, headache, or rash occur. Notify your health care provider at once if you experience chest pain or difficulty breathing. This medicine will cause staining of direct contact surfaces, including but not limited to fabrics, flooring, painted surfaces, marble, granite, vinyl, and enamel. Choose a suitable location when using of this medicine. This medicine contains sulfite preservatives, which can cause allergic reactions in certain individuals (eg, asthma patients). Check the package label when available or consult your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before using this medicine. Do not stop using this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Do not use this medicine more often than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have used too much of this medicine. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, use it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider.
