Benzoyl peroxide products are commonly employed for the treatment of mild to moderate acne. In the context of acne treatment, benzoyl peroxide operates by diminishing the population of acne-causing bacteria and inducing dryness and peeling of the skin. In the case of rosacea, benzoyl peroxide can assist in alleviating symptoms like facial pimples and bumps, contributing to a reduction in these manifestations.
Uses and Dosage
Benzoyl peroxide products should be applied once or twice daily to the affected area, or as instructed by your doctor. Begin with one daily application and, if necessary, increase to twice daily.
This medication is designed for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, nostrils, lips, mouth, or broken skin.
Various factors, including body weight, other medical conditions, and concurrent medications, can influence the required dosage. If your doctor suggests a different dose than the ones listed, do not alter your usage without consulting them.
Precise adherence to your doctor’s instructions is crucial. If you miss an application, apply the medication at the earliest opportunity. If the next application is near, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not exceed the prescribed frequency.
Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of children’s reach.

Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- dryness or peeling of the skin
- feeling of warmth, mild stinging, and redness of the skin
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- pain, burning, blistering, changes in color, dryness, itching, peeling, redness, scaling, stinging, or swelling of the skin where the medicine is applied
Caution
- Before using benzoyl peroxide, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as perfumes), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
- Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.
- This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skin blisters/redness.
- During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

FAQ
How long does it take for Benzagel to work?
Improvement in acne or rosacea is usually seen after 3 to 4 weeks of use, and maximum benefit after 8 to 12 weeks of use.
Can you put moisturizer over Benzagel?
The use of a moisturizer after treatment is highly recommended.
