Description

Indications

Solifenacin is prescribed to alleviate symptoms of an overactive bladder. By inducing relaxation of the bladder muscles, solifenacin enhances your ability to manage urination. It effectively reduces urine leakage, sudden urges to urinate, and frequent visits to the restroom. Solifenacin is classified as an antispasmodic drug.

Uses and Dosage

Solifenacin is available in tablet form and as a liquid suspension, both taken orally. Solifenacin tablets are typically taken once daily, with or without food, while the suspension is taken once daily. Take solifenacin at the same time each day to remember to take it. Do not take more or less solifenacin than prescribed or more often than instructed by your doctor.

Prior to use, shake the suspension well to ensure the medication is evenly mixed. An oral dosing syringe should be used to measure the accurate dose. The suspension can be swallowed directly from the syringe followed by a small amount of water or milk. Avoid taking the suspension with any other liquids or food to avoid a bitter taste.

The tablets should be swallowed whole and not broken, crushed, or chewed. They can be swallowed with water or another liquid.

Initially, your doctor may prescribe a low dose of solifenacin and adjust it during the treatment.

Solifenacin may assist in managing your symptoms but will not cure your condition. Continue taking it even if you feel better and do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor.

Prior to taking this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist of your medical history, particularly if you have difficulty urinating, bladder problems such as blockage, gastric retention, personal or family history of glaucoma (angle-closure type), liver disease, bowel disease, slowed movement of stomach/intestines, constipation, kidney disease, enlarged prostate, or a certain muscle/nerve disease (myasthenia gravis).
