This medication is utilized for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) with the aim of preventing strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. The product is a combination of two medications: candesartan and hydrochlorothiazide.
Candesartan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), working by relaxing blood vessels to facilitate smoother blood flow. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic or “water pill” that enhances urine production, particularly when starting the medication. It also contributes to blood vessel relaxation, further easing blood circulation. These medications are prescribed in combination when a single drug alone is insufficient to control blood pressure effectively.
Uses and Dosage
Take this medication orally, with or without food, according to your doctor’s instructions, usually once daily. Avoid taking this medication within 4 hours of bedtime to minimize the likelihood of having to wake up to urinate. If you are also taking certain medications to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), take this product at least 4 hours before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens, such as if your blood pressure readings persist at elevated levels or increase.

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:

- weakness
Caution
- Before taking this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to candesartan or hydrochlorothiazide, or if you have any other allergies. Inactive ingredients in this product may cause allergic reactions or other complications.
- Prior to using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have kidney disease, liver disease, dehydration, untreated electrolyte imbalance, gout, lupus, or a history of skin cancer.
- This drug may induce dizziness. The consumption of alcohol or marijuana can intensify this effect. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you can do so safely.
- Excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting may lead to dehydration and increase the risk of dizziness or lightheadedness. Report prolonged diarrhea or vomiting to your doctor. Ensure adequate fluid intake unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
- If you have diabetes, this medication may impact your blood sugar levels. Monitor your blood sugar regularly and share the results with your doctor. Inform your doctor promptly if you experience symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst or urination. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet.
- This drug may affect your potassium levels. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium.
- This medication may heighten your sensitivity to the sun and increase the risk of skin cancer, especially with prolonged use. Limit sun exposure, avoid tanning booths and sunlamps, and use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Notify your doctor if you experience sunburn, skin blisters/redness, or notice new or changed moles/skin lesions.
- Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, particularly dizziness and changes in urine volume (indicative of kidney problems).
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Avoid becoming pregnant while using this medication, as candesartan may harm an unborn baby. If pregnancy occurs, consult your doctor immediately to discuss the risks and benefits of this medication.
- This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
