Drug Description:

This medicine is used to treat gout and gouty arthritis in adults and children over 2 years of age. It is also used with some antibiotics to make them more effective in treating infections.Store between 59 to 86 degrees F. Protect from light.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not take this medicine until an acute gouty attack has stopped. However, if a serious attack occurs while taking this medicine, continue taking this medicine without changing the dose. Take additional appropriate medicine prescribed by your health care provider to control the attack. Do not take aspirin or aspirin-like products while taking this medicine. This medicine may cause an upset stomach. Take with food. If nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite continues, contact your health care provider. Stomach problems may mean that the dosage is too high and should be decreased by your health care provider. Drink plenty of fluids, at least 6 to 8 full (8 oz) glasses daily, to prevent the possible growth of kidney stones. Decreasing the acid level of the urine may also be required. Follow your health care provider’s directions for using agents that decrease the acidity of urine, such as bicarbonate or potassium citrate. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care providers before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than is prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or similar medications you are having an acute gout attack, uric acid kidney stones, or blood disorders you are taking aspirin or similar medicines if you have ulcer in your stomach if you have impaired kidney or liver functionBefore using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition (such as a history of peptic ulcers)Do not take aspirin, salsalate (Disalcid), magnesium salicylate (Magan, Doan’s), choline and magnesium salicylate (Trilisate), or other aspirin-like products with this medicine.
