Description

What is Creon 25?

Creon 25 is a combination of pancreatic enzymes (lipase, amylase, and protease) that aid in food digestion. This medicine is used to treat people who have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). Usually, EPI is associated with cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, or surgical removal of the pancreas. This medication also alleviates abdominal discomfort and severe constipation and gas.

How does Creon 25 work?

This medication consists of three pancreatic enzymes that work hand in hand to help break down food to help meet the nutritional requirements of the body.

The pancreas is the primary producer of lipase. It is a water-soluble enzyme that converts fats and oils into glycerol and fatty acids for easy absorption in the stomach.

Meanwhile, Amylase is produced by the salivary glands to break down starch into sugars, which are the body’s principal fuel source.

On the other hand, Protease converts protein into amino acids, which are then utilized in a variety of metabolic activities related to growth and repair.

Creon Dosages

Creon 25 dosage and frequency are individualized, depending on your health condition, body weight, age, and response to treatment. This drug is available in delayed-release pills with a strength of 25000/25500/1600 units per capsule.

Lipase units are the basis for this treatment. The recommended dose for infants (up to 12 months old) is 3,000 lipase units/120 mL of milk.

For adults and children (one year old and above), the suggested dose should not exceed 10,000 lipase units/kg of body weight per meal.
