Description

Isoptin SR Description:

Isoptin SR is a calcium channel blocker prescribed to relax the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. This is used to treat mild-to-moderate high blood pressure.

Isoptin SR uses:

  • Treatment of arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), chest pain (angina), and high blood pressure.
  • Relaxes blood arteries, allowing the heart to pump more efficiently.

Isoptin SR Dosage:

Start treatment with 180 mg administered in the morning, with food.

Lower, initial doses of 120 mg a day may be needed for those who have an increased response to verapamil.

If a satisfactory response is not obtained with 180 mg, the dose may be increased as follows:

  • Take Isoptin SR 240 mg first thing in the morning
  • 180 mg in the morning and 180 mg at night, or 240 mg in the morning and 120 mg at night
  • Every twelve hours, 240 mg

Direction:

  • The suggested dose of verapamil with meals ranges from 180 mg to 480 mg if you take the sustained-release tablets. If the dosage is 240 mg or less, the SR pills should be taken once a day.
  • Bodyweight, other medical issues, and other drugs can influence the required dosage. If your doctor prescribed a dose different from those stated here, don’t adjust your prescribed dosage without first visiting your doctor.

Side Effects of Isoptin SR:

If any of the following adverse effects develop, contact your doctor immediately:

  • Trouble breathing, coughing, or wheezing
  • Fainting, lightheadedness, or dizziness
  • Hammering or erratic heartbeat
  • Muscle wasting
  • Skin rashes
  • Low heart rate (less than 50 beats per minute)
  • Ankles, feet, and lower legs swell

Caution:

  • Verapamil works in part by lowering the power of the heart’s contractions, which might exacerbate heart failure symptoms.
  • This medicine may build up in the body due to renal disease or impaired kidney function or as a result of liver disease or impaired liver function, producing negative effects.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between Isoptin SR and Isoptin?

The main difference is the “Sustained-Release” (SR) in Isoptin SR. This means the drug is delivered into the bloodstream over a long period of time, allowing it to be taken only once a day.

The isoptin tablet comes in two strengths: 80 mg or 120 mg, while ISOPTIN SR tablet comes in 120 mg, 180 mg, or 240 mg strengths.

Does Isoptin SR cause weight gain?

Weight gain is an unlikely side effect of Isoptin SR. Inform your doctor if you experience an unexplained/sudden weight gain.

How does this medication work?

It works similarly to Isoptin by widening blood arteries, allowing more blood and oxygen to reach the heart while simultaneously lowering high blood pressure.
