Indications
Gemfibrozil, in conjunction with dietary modifications, is prescribed to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It is also utilized in individuals with a combination of low high-density lipoprotein (HDL; ‘good cholesterol’) levels and high low-density lipoprotein (LDL; ‘bad cholesterol’) and triglyceride levels, with the aim of reducing the risk of heart disease. Belonging to the class of lipid-regulating medications called fibrates, gemfibrozil functions by inhibiting the liver’s production of triglycerides.
Uses and Dosage
Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally, usually twice a day, approximately 30 minutes before your morning and evening meals.
The prescribed dosage is contingent on your medical condition and your response to the treatment.
If you are also using certain other drugs to lower your cholesterol, such as bile acid-binding resins like cholestyramine or colestipol, ensure to take gemfibrozil at least 1 hour before or at least 4-6 hours after these medications. This precaution prevents potential interactions that could hinder the full absorption of gemfibrozil.
To maximize the benefits, take this medication consistently at the same times each day. Continue taking it even if you feel well, as many individuals with high cholesterol/triglycerides may not experience noticeable symptoms.

Caution
