Indications
Phenylephrine ointment is employed for the temporary alleviation of swelling, burning, pain, and itching associated with hemorrhoids. It encompasses phenylephrine, a member of the sympathomimetic amines class of drugs. Its mechanism of action involves the temporary constriction of blood vessels in the affected area. This action contributes to the reduction of swelling and discomfort.
Certain formulations may additionally incorporate ingredients like cocoa butter, hard fat, mineral oil, and shark liver oil. These components create a protective barrier to mitigate excessive irritation caused by stool contact.
Uses and Dosage
Apply this product up to four times daily, typically in the morning and at bedtime, or after each bowel movement, as advised by your doctor.
Before application, cleanse the area using mild soap and water, then rinse thoroughly and gently pat dry.
Remove the protective cap from the applicator tip, attach the tip to the medication tube, and place a small quantity of ointment onto it. Insert the applicator tip into the rectum gently and squeeze the tube to administer a small amount of the medication. Additionally, apply some of the ointment to the outer area of the anus.
After each use, ensure proper cleaning of the applicator tip and replace the protective cap.
The dosage is determined by your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not exceed the recommended frequency or duration of use.
If symptoms show no improvement within 7 days, if there is bleeding or worsening pain, or if you suspect a severe medical issue, promptly consult your doctor.

The passage of this medication into breast milk is uncertain. Before breastfeeding, consult your doctor for guidance.
