Description

Indications

Flavoxate is prescribed for various purposes, including the treatment of overactive bladder. Overactive bladder is a condition characterized by uncontrolled contractions of the bladder muscles, leading to frequent urination, a sudden urge to urinate, and difficulty in controlling urination. Flavoxate is also used to alleviate the discomfort associated with painful, frequent, or nighttime urination, as well as urgency, often occurring alongside infections of the prostate, bladder, or kidneys. Flavoxate belongs to a class of medications known as antimuscarinics, and its mechanism of action involves relaxing the muscles of the bladder.

Uses and Dosage

Follow your doctor’s instructions and take this medication orally, usually 3 to 4 times a day. If you experience stomach discomfort, take it with food.

The appropriate dosage is determined by your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment.

Once your symptoms have improved, your doctor may consider reducing your dose. The duration of your treatment will be contingent on the underlying cause of your condition.

Do not modify your dosage or increase the frequency of taking this medication without obtaining your doctor’s consent. Doing so will not hasten your recovery and may heighten the risk of experiencing side effects.

This drug can potentially cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. The consumption of alcohol or marijuana can intensify these effects. Avoid activities requiring alertness or clear vision, such as driving or operating machinery, until you can safely do so.

This medication may lead to reduced sweating. To minimize the risk of heat-related complications like heatstroke, prevent overheating in hot weather, saunas, or during exercise or strenuous activities.
