Description

Indications

Disulfiram is a medication used along with counseling and support for the treatment of chronic alcoholism. It is designed to induce unpleasant effects when even minor amounts of alcohol are ingested. These effects may include facial flushing, headaches, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, blurred vision, mental confusion, sweating, choking, breathing difficulties, and anxiety. The onset of these effects is approximately 10 minutes after alcohol consumption, and they can persist for an hour or longer. Disulfiram should not be considered a cure for alcoholism, it is intended to deter individuals from drinking.
