Qvar Inhaler Product Description

This medicine is used to prevent and control asthma.Store between 36 and 86 degrees F. This medicine may not be as effective if the canister is cold. Contents are under pressure. Exposure to heat above 120 degrees F may cause bursting. Do not use or store near heat or open flame. Never throw the containerHow much medicine you take/give and how often you take/give it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking/giving, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read and follow the information provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take/give this medicine at regular intervals or exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. This medicine is for use within the nose only. This medicine is not intended to give immediate relief of your nasal symptoms. Before using this medicine for the first time, you must remove the cap from the inhaler canister and insert the canister into the actuator provided with this medicine. To open the actuator, place your thumb on the notch at the bottom of the actuator and pull up on the front cover. Gently blow your nose to clear the nostrils. Shake the inhaler well. Snap open the cover of the actuator and hold the inhaler between your thumb and forefinger. Carefully insert the nasal piece on the actuator into 1 nostril and close the other nostril with 1 finger. While gently breathing in through the nostril, press down on the top of the canister to release the medicine. Breathe out through the mouth. Shake the inhaler again and repeat the procedure. Close the actuator after each use. Remove the canister from the actuator and rinse the nasal piece in warm water once a day. Dry well and insert the canister back into the actuator. Throw the canister away on the date given to you by your health care provider. The correct amount of medicine in each inhalation cannot be ensured after a certain number of inhalations, even if the canister is not completely empty. Before the discard date, contact your doctor to see if you need a refill. Avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles while taking/giving this medicine. If exposed, contact your health care provider at once. If you suspect you and/or your child have an infection in your nose or throat, contact your health care provider. If symptoms do not improve within 3 weeks or worsen, contact your health care provider. With high doses of steroids, the following symptoms can occur when you and/or your child stop taking this medicine: Joint pain or muscle pain; lack of energy; depression. Contact your health care provider if any of these occur. Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking/giving this medicine. Do not take/give more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider if you feel you have taken/given too much of this medicine. Do not take/give any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take/give it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your health care provider at your next appointment.Do not take/give this medicine if you and/or your child are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine if you have nasal ulcers, nose surgery, or an injury to the nose.Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you and/or your child are taking any other prescription medicine (especially prednisone), nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you and/or your child have previously been treated with steroids for a long period of time if you and/or your child have recently experienced nasal septum ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma if you and/or your child have an untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral infection if you and/or your child have a herpes infection near the eye if you and/or your child have any other infection if you and/or your child have tuberculosis if you and/or your child have any other medical conditionThis medicine is not for rapid relief of asthma symptoms. How should I take Qvar Inhaler?

How much medicine you take/give and how often you take/give it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. This medicine is not intended to give immediate relief of your nasal symptoms. If you are using it the first time or have not used it for over 7 days, spray the inhaler twice into the air. Remove the cap from the inhaler, hold it upright and shake the inhaler well. Drink some water to moisten your throat. As comfortably as you can, breathe out as much as you can. While holding the inhaler upright, put your lips around the mouth piece with your tongue below it. While inhaling deeply, press down on the top of the canister to release the medicine and hold your breath as long as you can. Remove the inhaler away from your mouth and gently exhale. Wait for at least 1 minute before you do another inhalation. Throw the canister away on the date given to you by your health care provider. This medicine is not for rapid relief of asthma symptoms. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Most severe:  Allergic reactions (giant hives; rash; tightness in the chest; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, or tongue).

Most common:  Irritation or burning of the nose; sneezing attack; nosebleed.

Other:  Cataracts; glaucoma; increased pressure in the eye; wheezing; headache; nose infection; lightheadedness; dryness; irritation of the nose and throat; unpleasant taste and smell; loss of taste and smell.
