Description

Indications

Nitazoxanide is indicated for the treatment of diarrhea which is caused by Cryptosporidium or Giardia protozoa. When diarrhea persists for more than 7 days, protozoa are suspected as the underlying cause. Nitazoxanide belongs to the class of antiprotozoal agents and exerts its therapeutic effect by inhibiting the growth of specific protozoa that are responsible for inducing diarrhea.

Uses and Dosage

To ensure optimal efficacy, take this medication orally with food, as instructed by your physician, usually every 12 hours for a duration of 3 days.

If you are using the liquid form of this medication, make sure to shake the bottle well before administering each dose. Use a specialized measuring device or spoon to accurately measure the dose, rather than a regular household spoon, to ensure you receive the correct amount.

Children who are 11 years old or younger should take the liquid form of nitazoxanide instead of tablets, with the dose being determined by their age.

To maintain a consistent level of medication in your body, take antibiotics at regular intervals.

Complete the entire course of medication as prescribed by your doctor, even if symptoms subside after a few doses. Discontinuing the treatment prematurely could lead to a recurrence of the infection.

Should your condition persist or worsen, inform your physician immediately.
