Aptiom for Seizures
This medication is used to treat and prevent certain types of seizures called focal seizures. Aptiom tablet uses the active ingredient eslicarbazepine to decrease symptoms of focal onset seizure.
Mechanism of Action
Scientists aren’t yet sure exactly how eslicarbazepine works. It is thought to act on certain cell membranes called ion channels that allow electrical signals to communicate via nerve impulses. Anticonvulsants such as Aptiom can be used alone or with other medications to decrease the frequency and/or severity of focal seizures.
Who Should Not Use Aptiom?
Do not use this medication without your doctor’s guidance if you have a history involving past kidney disease, liver disease, or mineral imbalances. Always communicate your medical history with your doctor before using a prescription drug in order to minimize the risk of adverse side effects.
If you have a hypersensitivity to eslicarbazepine or any non-active ingredient used to make Aptiom, then you should not use this medication under any circumstance. Allergic reactions are life-threatening if they cause swelling in the mouth or throat that leads to difficulty breathing.
Do not operate heavy machinery or drive for long periods when using this medication. Side effects of Aptiom include dizziness and blurry vision; either of which can make it difficult to maintain alertness. Alcohol and cannabis can make these effects more pronounced. Refrain from partaking in dangerous activities until you are aware of how this medication affects you.
If you are pregnant and your doctor has prescribed Aptiom, please be aware that they have judged that the benefit of taking this medication will be greater than the risk of causing fetal harm. It’s not fully known if this medication passes into breast milk or will cause harm to unborn children, but there is little indication that there is a high risk for danger.
