Glycopyrrolate and formoterol are classified as long-acting bronchodilators, which function by facilitating the expansion of the bronchial tubes (air passages) within the lungs when inhaled orally. These medications alleviate symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, dyspnea, and respiratory distress by enhancing the airflow through the bronchial tubes.
Uses and Dosage
Prior to usage, ensure thorough shaking of the canister. For initial use or following a period of non-use exceeding one week, perform test sprays in the air, following the provided instructions. The emission of a fine mist confirms the proper functioning of the inhaler. During the priming process, direct the spray away from your face to prevent medication contact with the eyes.
Administer this medication orally according to your physician’s instructions, typically twice daily, in the morning and evening. Allow a minimum of one minute between each inhalation.
Maintain regular usage of this medication to maximize its efficacy. To aid in adherence, establish a consistent daily schedule for administration.
Under no circumstances should the dosage be increased, the frequency of use heightened, or usage discontinued without prior consultation with a healthcare professional. Such actions will not accelerate the improvement of your condition and will instead heighten the risk of adverse effects.
If you are concurrently employing other inhalers, allow at least one minute between the administration of each medication.
If you have been following a regular daily regimen with a quick-relief inhaler, such as albuterol, discontinue this routine and employ the quick-relief inhaler only as necessary in response to sudden bouts of breathlessness.
Familiarize yourself with the specific inhalers designated for daily usage and those intended for acute exacerbations (quick-relief medications). Inquire in advance with your doctor about the appropriate course of action should you experience a new or worsening cough, increased difficulty in breathing, wheezing, heightened sputum production, nocturnal breathlessness, escalated usage of the quick-relief inhaler, or if the efficacy of the quick-relief inhaler appears to be diminishing. Educate yourself on when it is permissible to manage sudden breathing difficulties independently and when immediate medical assistance is necessary.
Side Effects

Caution
Prior to initiating the use of glycopyrrolate/formoterol, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist about any known allergies to either drug or any other substances. This product may contain inactive ingredients that can potentially trigger allergic reactions or other adverse effects.
Before commencing treatment with this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of heart problems, high blood pressure, seizures, overactive thyroid, diabetes, or a personal or family history of angle-closure glaucoma or difficulties with urination due to an enlarged prostate.
Glycopyrrolate/formoterol may cause a cardiac rhythm disorder known as QT prolongation. In rare cases, QT prolongation can lead to serious (and rarely fatal) rapid or irregular heartbeat, as well as other symptoms requiring immediate medical attention, such as severe dizziness and fainting.
The risk of QT prolongation may increase if you have low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood or if you are using certain medications (such as diuretics or “water pills”). Additionally, conditions like intense sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting may also heighten this risk. Discuss the safe usage of glycopyrrolate/formoterol with your doctor, particularly if any of these factors apply to you.
Elderly individuals may exhibit increased sensitivity to the side effects of this medication, particularly concerning QT prolongation.
During pregnancy, this medication should only be used if clearly necessary. Have a comprehensive discussion with your doctor regarding the potential risks and benefits.
The passage of this medication into breast milk is currently unknown. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding to make an informed decision.
