Description

Indications

Cyclopentolate ophthalmic solution is administered to induce dilation of the pupil and temporary paralysis of the eye as a preparatory measure for ocular examinations. Classified as a mydriatic agent, cyclopentolate functions by selectively inhibiting specific receptors within the eye, thus facilitating transient relaxation or short-term paralysis of the ocular musculature.

Uses and Dosage

Cyclopentolate is available in the form of a liquid solution intended for ocular administration. Prior to undergoing an eye examination, your healthcare provider will apply this solution to your eye(s).

It typically takes approximately thirty minutes or longer for the effects of cyclopentolate ophthalmic to fully manifest following instillation. Generally, the effects persist for up to 24 hours. In certain individuals, the duration may extend to several days.

When administering cyclopentolate to a child, closely monitor them for at least 30 minutes after instillation. Infants should refrain from feeding for a period of 4 hours following the application of cyclopentolate.

Utilize cyclopentolate ophthalmic solely for ocular use and avoid swallowing the solution.

Exercise caution to prevent the tip of the bottle from making contact with your eye, fingers, face, or any other surfaces. If the tip does come into contact with another surface, it may introduce bacteria into the eye drops.

To administer the eye drops, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.
  2. Do not allow the dropper tip to touch the eye or any other surface, and ensure that it is kept clean.
  3. Tilt the head back and pull down the lower lid of the eye using the index finger to form a pocket.
  4. Hold the dropper as close to the eye as possible without making contact, and brace the remaining fingers against the face.
  5. Squeeze the dropper gently to instill a single drop in the pocket created by the lower eyelid while looking upwards.
  6. Remove the index finger from the lower eyelid and keep the eye closed for 2-3 minutes while tilting the head down.
  7. Apply gentle pressure to the tear duct using a finger.
  8. Use a tissue to wipe off any excess liquid from the face.
  9. Wash hands to remove any residual medication.
