Description:
This medication is an antidepressant and anxiety medicine used to treat symptoms of extensive pain known as fibromyalgia and to help relieve nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy) in people with diabetes. Patients with fibromyalgia are more prone to be depressed.
This drug is a prescription serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) medication that works for the effective treatment of the major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) mental depression, conditions characterized by amplified anxiety and excessive, unreasonable worry.
What is Cymbalta Used For?
- It is used to treat generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder in adults and kids over seven years old.
- One may also use Cymbalta for pain related to diabetes, diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, chronic osteoarthritis pain, and chronic pain in the lower back.
Cymbalta and Alcohol:
The combination of alcohol and this medication may lead to an increased risk of liver damage. It also worsens depression and increases the risk of suicide. Do not take this drug with alcohol to preclude negative effects.
Cymbalta Dosage:
- Adult Dose for Depression:
- 20mg to 30mg orally twice a day.
- Maximum dose: 120mg a day
- Adult Dose for Pain, Neuropathic and Chronic Pain
- 30mg to 60mg orally once a day
- Maintenance dose: 60mg once a day
- Adult Dose for Fibromyalgia:
- For at least one week, take 30mg orally once a day.
- 30 to 60 mg orally once a day as a maintenance dose
- Adult Dose for Generalized Anxiety Disorder:
- 60mg orally once a day
- Maximum dose: 120mg a day
- Children Dose for Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- 7 to 17 years:
- 30mg once a day for two weeks orally
- Maximum dose: 120mg/day.
- Children Dose for Fibromyalgia:
- 13 years and older:
- Initial dose: 30mg orally once a day for at least 1 week
- Maintenance dose: 30 to 60mg once a day orally.
Direction:
- Follow exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Consume orally, at the same time every day. Follow instructions at the back of the prescription bottle.
- Swallow the drug whole, do not chew or break.
- Consume with or without food.
