Description
Indications
Valproic acid is prescribed either as a monotherapy or in combination with other medications for the treatment of specific seizure types. This medication is also utilized in the management of manic episodes, characterized by heightened and abnormally excited mood, in individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Valproic acid can additionally be employed as a preventive measure against migraine headaches, although it does not alleviate headaches that have already commenced. Valproic acid belongs to a pharmacological category known as anticonvulsants and operates by augmenting the levels of a specific naturally occurring substance in the brain.
