Description

Indications

Cefadroxil is indicated for the treatment of specific bacterial infections affecting various areas of the body, including the skin, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract. Classified as a cephalosporin antibiotic, Cefadroxil exerts its therapeutic effect by effectively eradicating bacteria responsible for the infections.

Uses and Dosage

Cefadroxil is available in capsule, tablet, and suspension forms for oral administration. It is typically taken once every 12 or 24 hours, with or without food.

Consistency in timing is important, take cefadroxil at approximately the same times every day. Take cefadroxil exactly as directed, without exceeding or reducing the prescribed dosage frequency.

To minimize nausea and stomach discomfort, take cefadroxil alongside meals.

Before each use of the suspension form, ensure thorough shaking to ensure proper dispersion of the medication.

During the initial days of cefadroxil treatment, you should observe an improvement in your symptoms. If your symptoms fail to improve or worsen, contact your doctor.

Continue taking cefadroxil until you have finished the entire prescription, even if you start feeling better. Premature discontinuation or skipping doses may result in incomplete treatment of the infection, potentially leading to antibiotic resistance in the bacteria.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:

  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • genital itching

Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:

  • watery or bloody stools, stomach cramps, or fever during treatment or for up to two or more months after stopping treatment
  • rash
  • itching
  • hives
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing

  • a return of sore throat, chills or other signs of infection
  • yellowing of your skin or eyes
  • pain in the upper right part of your stomach
  • dark urine
  • clay colored or white stools

This medication may contain inactive ingredients that can potentially trigger allergic reactions or other complications.

Before using cefadroxil, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have kidney disease or intestinal disease such as colitis.

Cefadroxil has the potential to interfere with the efficacy of live bacterial vaccines, including the typhoid vaccine. Prior to undergoing any immunizations or vaccinations, inform your healthcare professional that you are taking cefadroxil.

The suspension form of this medication may contain sugar. If you have diabetes or any other condition requiring sugar limitation or avoidance in your diet, exercise caution.

During pregnancy, cefadroxil should only be used when clearly necessary. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.

FAQ

Is Duricef the same as amoxicillin?

Duricef is a cephalosporin antibiotic and amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic. Both antibiotics kill bacteria by preventing the bacteria from making their own protective covering.

How long does it take Duricef to work?

Duricef will start working right away to fight the infection in your body. You should start to feel better within the first few days, but continue to take the full course of your medication even if you feel like you don’t need it anymore.
