Indications
This combination product comprises two active ingredients: fluticasone and azelastine. It is specifically indicated for the management of nasal and ocular symptoms associated with moderate-to-severe seasonal allergies in both adult patients and children aged 6 years and above. Fluticasone functions as a corticosteroid, effectively mitigating the body’s immune response to allergens. Azelastine acts as an antihistamine, antagonizing the physiological effects induced by endogenous chemicals released in response to allergenic stimuli.
Uses and Dosage
Before using this product, gently blow your nose. Prior to each use, ensure to shake the container gently. If you are using the container for the first time or if it has not been used for an extended period (e.g., more than 1 week), please follow the instructions for test sprays in the air.
Administer this medication in the nasal cavity according to the instructions provided by your doctor, typically twice a day in both nostrils. Avoid spraying it in your eyes or mouth. In case the medication comes into contact with your eyes, thoroughly flush them with water.
To derive the maximum benefit from this medication, adhere to a regular usage schedule. To aid in remembering, administer it at consistent times each day.
Avoid increasing the dosage or using this medication more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed. Such actions will not accelerate the improvement of your condition, and they can elevate the risk of experiencing adverse effects.
Ensure regular cleaning of the applicator. Keep a record of the number of sprays used from the container. Dispose of the container once you have utilized the specified number of sprays indicated on the manufacturer’s packaging.
You may start experiencing the effects of the product as early as 30 minutes after the initial dose, although it may take several days to fully experience its benefits. Inform your doctor if there is no improvement or if your condition worsens.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- change in sense of taste or smell
- crusting in the nose
- drowsiness
- dry or soreness inside the nose
- headache
- nose bleeds
- runny nose
- symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection (e.g., sore throat, fever, cough, stuffy nose, chills, feeling tired)
- trouble sleeping
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- bone or joint pain
- severe diarrhea
- shortness of breath
- signs of nasal ulcers (pain, burning, or irritation)
- rapid weight gain
- muscle weakness
- visual glare, reduced vision
- tiredness
- weakness
- nausea
- vomiting
- constant whistling sound when you breathe from your nose
Caution
Prior to using this product, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you may have, specifically to azelastine or fluticasone, as well as any other known allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could potentially trigger allergic reactions or other complications.
Before using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have recently experienced nose problems such as injuries, ulcers, or undergone nasal surgery, or if you have current or past infections including tuberculosis or herpes eye infection. Additionally, inform them about any eye conditions you may have, such as glaucoma or cataracts.
This medication may induce drowsiness. Consumption of alcohol or marijuana can intensify this drowsiness. Refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you can do so safely.
Take precautions to avoid close contact with individuals who have easily transmissible infections such as chickenpox, COVID-19, measles, or the flu. Consult your doctor if you have been exposed to an infection or require further details.
In rare cases, prolonged use of corticosteroid medications can impair the body’s ability to respond to physical stress. Prior to undergoing surgery, emergency treatment, or if you experience a severe illness or injury, inform your doctor or dentist about your current or recent use of this medication.
Although unlikely, extended use of this medication may temporarily affect a child’s growth rate. Regularly visit the doctor to monitor the child’s height.
During pregnancy, this medication should only be used when clearly necessary. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is uncertain whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
