Epivir Drug Description:
This medicine, in combination with other HIV medications, is for the treatment of HIV infection in adults and children 3 months of age and older.Store tablets between 36 to 86 degrees F. Avoid exposure to excessive heat, direct light and moisture. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.How much medicine you take and how often it is taken depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. This medication is to be taken orally with or without food. This medication should be taken with other HIV medications for maximum effect. Parents or guardians of children taking this medication should monitor their children for signs and symptoms of pancreas inflammation (such as stomach pain, tenderness, and vomiting). The long-term effects of this medication are not known at this time. Pregnant women should be advised of the risks of using this medication while they are expecting, including the risk of cancer and the possible transmission of the HIV infection to the unborn child. This medication offers no protection from the transmission of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood contamination. This medication is not a cure for HIV infection (the virus that causes AIDS). Patients may continue to experience illnesses/infections associated with HIV infection. Patient should remain under the care of their doctor. HIV-infected mothers should not breastfeed their infants because of the risk of transmitting the HIV infection. This medicine may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor.
