Indications

Cevimeline is indicated for the management of dry mouth symptoms in individuals diagnosed with Sjogren’s syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by diminished moisture in specific areas of the body such as the mouth and eyes. Classified as a cholinergic agonist, cevimeline operates by augmenting salivary production, thereby ameliorating the dryness experienced by patients.

Uses and Dosage

Consume this medication orally, with or without food, typically three times daily.

The dosage will be determined based on your specific medical condition and your response to the treatment.

For optimal results, take this medication consistently. To aid in remembering, administer it at the same times every day.

As necessary, you may continue to hydrate by drinking water or using saliva substitutes to alleviate dryness in your mouth.

You may begin to experience some improvements within 1 to 2 weeks. However, it could take up to 6 weeks to perceive the complete benefits. If your condition persists or worsens inform your doctor.

Side Effects

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:

  • nausea
  • runny nose

Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:

  • severe headache
  • changes in vision
  • tearing in eyes
  • excessive sweating
  • difficulty breathing
  • abdominal cramping

Caution

Before taking cevimeline, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: breathing problems, certain eye conditions, heart disease, low or high blood pressure, liver problems, gallbladder disease, kidney stones, mental/mood disorders, stomach problems (such as chronic heartburn, ulcer).

This drug may make you dizzy or cause vision problems, especially at night. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness or clear vision, until you can do it safely.

If cevimeline makes you sweat heavily, drink plenty of fluids so that you do not become dehydrated. If you are unable to drink enough fluids, talk with your doctor right away.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before breast-feeding.

Is it still safe for me to drive even though I’m taking Evoxac?

Evoxac can make it harder for you to drive a car because you can feel dizzy after taking it. It can also make your eyes blurry and change the depth of things you see, especially at night. Don’t drive a car until you know how Evoxac affects you.

Can I take Evoxac with food?

You can take Evoxac with or without food. However, food can slow down how quickly and how much of the medication gets absorbed into your body.
