Drug Description:

This medicine is used for the treatment of DiabetesStore at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depend on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. This medicine should generally be given once daily with the evening meal. This medicine should be started at a low dose, with gradual dose escalation, both to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and to permit identification of the minimum dose required for adequate glycemic control of the patient. Make sure to consult your doctor if you have kidney problems, liver problems, have heart failure that is treated with medicines, such as Lanoxin® (digoxin) or Lasix® (furosemide), if you drink a lot of alcohol, if you are seriously dehydrated (have lost a lot of water from your body), are going to have an x-ray procedure with injection of dyes (contrast agents), if you are going to have surgery, if you develp a serious condition, such as heart attack, severe infection, or a stroke, if you are are 80 years or older and you have never had your kidney function tested.Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications, if you have impaired kidney function, cardiovascular collapse (shock), acute myocardial infarction, and septicemia; if you have acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without comaBefore using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have impairment of heart, lung, liver and kidney functionsThis medicine can cause a fatal metabolic complication called Lactic acidosis which is characterized by elevated blood lactate levels (>5 mmol/L), decreased blood pH, electrolyte disturbances with an increased anion gap, and an increased lactate/pyruvate ratio.Most severe: Abnormal stools, hypoglycemia, myalgia, lightheaded, dyspnea, nail disorder, rash, sweating increased, taste disorder, chest discomfort, chills, flu syndrome, flushing, palpitation.Most common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, indigestion, abdominal discomfort, headacheOther: Abdominal pain, constipation, distention abdomen, dyspepsia/heartburn, flatulence, dizziness, headache, upper respiratory infection, taste disturbance.

Contra Indication:

Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications, if you have impaired kidney function, cardiovascular collapse (shock), acute myocardial infarction, and septicemia; if you have acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis, with or without coma
