Drug Description:

This medicine is either used alone or in combination with other medications, for the treatment of high blood pressure. It is also used for the treatment of swelling associated with heart failure. It should not be used for swelling due to pregnancy.Store at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Diabetic patients may experience a loss of glucose control. Be prepared to monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently. This medicine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when rising from a seated or lying position. If this occurs, sit or lie down and contact your doctor. This medicine should be taken once daily in the morning because it increases urination. This medicine should be used with caution in women who are pregnant. Be sure to contact your health care provider if you become pregnant while taking this medicine. Lab test may be needed. Be sure to keep appointments. This medicine may cause loss of potassium. Notify your physician if dry mouth, thirst, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, restlessness, muscle pains or cramps, low blood pressure, urination problems, rapid heart beat, and stomach upset. This medicine may cause dizziness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to similar medications.Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition. Patients using this medicine should be carefully monitored for serum electrolytes and signs and symptoms of fluid or electrolyte imbalance; namely hyponatremia, hypochloremia and hypokalemia. BUN, uric acid, and glucose levels should also be assessed regularly during treatment. Hypokalemia (potassium deficiency) is more commonly associated with concomitant steroid or ACTH therapy and with inadequate electrolyte intake. The serum potassium should be determined at regular intervals and potassium supplementation should be indicated if necessaryUse of Digitalis glycosides (heart medication) or Lithium with this medicine may increase the chance of side effects of these drugs.
