Description

Indications

Tranexamic acid is utilized for the treatment of heavy bleeding during menstrual cycles in women. It is classified as an antifibrinolytic medication and operates by enhancing blood clotting.

Uses and Dosage

Tranexamic acid is administered orally in the form of tablets. The medication is typically taken three times daily during menstruation, for up to five days, with or without food.

Start taking the medication each month when your period begins, and do not take it outside of your menstrual cycle. Dosages should be taken at consistent times each day. Follow the prescription label instructions carefully and to consult with your doctor or pharmacist if any directions are unclear. Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment.

Tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, chewed, or crushed.

Tranexamic acid belongs to the antifibrinolytic class of drugs, and works by improving blood clotting. While it can reduce the amount of blood lost during menstruation, it does not completely halt menstrual bleeding.

Contact your doctor if you experience no improvement or worsening of your bleeding during treatment.
