Drug Description:
This medicine is used to prevent or treat mild cases of malaria. It should not be used to treat severe malaria.Store at 77 degrees F.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. When using for malaria prevention, start taking this medicine 1 to 2 days before going to a malaria-infested area and continue to take daily during the stay and for 7 days after return. Take this medicine at the same time each day with food or a milky drink. Take another dose of this medicine if vomiting occurs within 1 hour after taking a dose. Talk with your doctor about persistent diarrhea or vomiting. Talk with your doctor about alternative treatments for prevention of malaria if this medicine is stopped for any reason. Wear protective clothing and use insect repellents and bednets to lessen the possibility of getting malaria. Pregnant women who are infected with malaria are more likely to suffer serious complications. The risks and benefits should be discussed with a health care provider. Seek immediate medical attention if fever occurs during or after your return from a malaria-infested area. This medicine may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor.
