Uses and Dosage
This medication is initiated promptly following the onset of brain bleeding, typically within a 4-day timeframe. Nimodipine should be administered according to your physician’s instructions, usually every 4 hours, either 1 hour prior to or 2 hours post a meal.
If you are using the tablet form of this medication, ingest it with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters), unless otherwise advised by your doctor. After taking the tablet, refrain from lying down for at least 10 minutes. Swallow the tablet whole; avoid crushing it.
In case you are using the capsule form, follow your doctor’s instructions for oral consumption. Consume the capsule in its entirety. If swallowing the whole capsule is problematic, you can puncture the capsule, extract the liquid with a syringe, and administer it orally or through a nasogastric tube using an oral syringe. Do not mix the capsule contents with other liquids, as this could compromise the medication’s efficacy. Injection of this medication is prohibited.
For the liquid form (oral solution), employ a specialized measuring device or spoon to measure the dose accurately. Do not employ a regular household spoon, as it might yield an incorrect dose. Some brands of this medication might provide a prefilled oral syringe with the precise dose. Alternatively, the liquid form can be administered through a nasogastric or gastric tube. Side Effects

Older adults could be more prone to experiencing side effects from this medication, particularly dizziness or swelling of the ankles/feet. Dizziness increases the risk of falls.

This medication can pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
