Description 

This medication is prescribed to reduce the uncontrollable movements (chorea) caused by Huntington’s disease. It’s used to treat hyperkinetic movement disorders like Huntington’s chorea, Hemiballismus, Senile Chorea, Tic and Gille’s de la Tourette Syndrome, and Tardive Dyskinesia, among other things. 

What is Nitoman used for?  

  • Nitoman may be used to treat Huntington’s disease-related involuntary muscular spasms. These jerky tics and movements are thought to be caused by an increase in the activity of a neurotransmitter known as dopamine. Chorea is the most prevalent and devastating motor sign of Huntington’s disease. 

Nitoman Drug Class 

  • Tetrabenazine is a medicine in a class known as monoamine depleting agents. Essentially, this medication works by reducing the amount of certain natural substances in the brain (monoamines such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine), which are associated with nerve and muscle function

Nitoman Dosage

  • Adults should take 12.5 mg (1/2 a tablet) two to three times per day as their first dosage of tetrabenazine. If this is well tolerated, the dosage can be progressively raised to 25 mg three times per day.
  • Typically, improvement is observed within a week at the maximum dose, and side effects are minimal. If this isn’t the case, this drug might not be right for you.
  • Many factors, such as body weight, other medical problems, and other drugs, might influence the dosage of medication that a person requires. If your doctor has advised a dose other than those stated below, do not modify the manner you take the prescription without first talking with your doctor.
  • Keep this medication at room temperature, away from light and moisture, and out of children’s reach

  • Tetrabenazine may produce a drop in blood pressure, resulting in dizziness and fainting, particularly after rising from a sitting or reclining posture. To avoid dizziness, fainting, or falling, carefully rise from a seated or reclining posture. 
  • Tetrabenazine reduces uncontrollable movement. Some tetrabenazine users have reported tremors or tight muscles with trouble initiating movement, a symptom similar to Parkinson’s disease. If you see any of these symptoms, call your doctor as soon as possible.
