Drug Description:

This medicine is used to manage severe pain for more than a few days. Store below room temperature. Protect from light and moisture. Flush any unused medicine down the toilet. How much medicine you take and how often it is taken depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Swallow tablets whole. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets in half. Take this medicine with food if stomach upset occurs. This medicine may cause nausea, vomiting, or constipation. Constipation may be avoided by using a stool softener or fiber laxative. This medicine works best if taken regularly. It is more effective in preventing pain than in treating pain after it occurs. This medicine may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medicines that cause drowsiness (sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking this medicine. Do not take any over-the-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements without talking with your health care provider. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your health care provider at your next appointment. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine or to morphine salts you have severe asthma or other breathing problems you have known or suspected paralysis of the intestines you have convulsions you have increased pressure within the head or neck or other head injuries you have a brain tumor if you are heavily sedated Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements if you have liver or kidney problems if you have increased pressure within the head or other head injury if you have heart disease or other heart problems if you have severe low blood pressure if you have biliary tract disease if you have Addison’s disease if you have thyroid disease if you have difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate if you regularly consume large amounts of alcohol if you have experienced strange behavior after alcohol or other narcotics if you have a history of convulsions if you have difficulty swallowing if you have any other medical condition Most severe: Difficulty breathing; shock (changes in skin color); sudden chest pain; fast or slow heartbeat; pounding in the chest; seizure; hallucinations; swelling of the face or throat. Most common: Constipation; nausea; vomiting; lightheadedness; dizziness; exaggerated sense of well-being; drowsiness; sweating; restless mood. Other: Swelling; changes in taste; chills; muscle tremor; rigid muscles; pounding in the chest; faintness; fainting; dry mouth; loss of appetite; spasms of the voice box; urinary problems; changes in sex drive; cramps; diarrhea; muscle movements; seizure; abnormal skin sensations; uncontrolled mood changes; abnormal dreams; disorientation; changes in vision; sleeplessness; hives; itching; rash; blurred vision; double vision; rapid eye movements; pinpointed pupils. This medicine may be habit-forming. Withdrawal from this medicine should be gradual.
