Drug Description:

This medicine decreases excess water in the body and increases urine flow. It is used alone or with other blood pressure medicines to treat high blood pressure. It is also used with other therapy to reduce swelling (fluid retention) due to a number of causes. None. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Lab tests will be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Diabetes patients may experience loss of blood sugar control while taking this medicine. Be prepared to monitor your blood sugar levels more often. Contact your health care provider if any of the following occur: Dry mouth; thirst; thirst; weakness; lack of energy; drowsiness; restlessness; muscle pain/cramps; muscle tiredness; infrequent urination; fast heartbeat; nausea; vomiting. This medicine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when sitting or standing. If these symptoms occur, contact your health care provider. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. This medicine may cause sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or other forms of UV light (such as tanning beds). Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing until tolerance is determined. Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or rundown for a few weeks after beginning therapy. Continue to take your medicine even though you may not feel quite “”normal””. Contact your doctor or pharmacist about any new symptoms. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist. Other: Muscle spasm; weakness; restlessness; gout.
