Indications

Benzonatate is indicated for the treatment of coughs resulting from respiratory conditions such as the common cold, pneumonia, bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma.

Benzonatate is in a class of medications called antitussives. It works by reducing the cough reflex in the lungs and air passages.

Uses and Dosage

Benzonatate is available in two oral formulations, including liquid-filled capsules and capsules, which are administered by mouth. This medication is taken as needed three times daily. Swallow the capsules and liquid-filled capsules intact without breaking, dissolving, cutting, crushing, sucking, or chewing them. In the event of the medication being released in the mouth, it can cause numbness, which may lead to choking. Refrain from eating or drinking if experiencing any numbness or tingling sensations in the mouth, tongue, throat, or face. If the symptoms persist or exacerbate, seek medical attention promptly.
