Description

Indications

Almotriptan is indicated for the management of symptoms associated with migraine headaches, characterized by intense pulsating pain often accompanied by sensitivity to light and sound, as well as nausea. This medication belongs to the class of drugs known as selective serotonin receptor agonists. Its mechanism of action involves the constriction of blood vessels surrounding the brain, thereby impeding the transmission of pain signals to the brain. It additionally inhibits the release of specific endogenous substances responsible for inducing pain, nausea, and other migraine-related symptoms.

Uses and Dosage

Almotriptan is administered orally in the form of tablets. It is typically taken promptly upon the initial manifestation of a migraine headache. In the event that symptoms improve following the intake of almotriptan but reoccur after a duration of two hours or longer, a second tablet may be taken. However, if symptoms persist without improvement subsequent to almotriptan administration, refrain from taking an additional tablet until consulting with a medical professional.

Your doctor will provide instructions regarding the maximum number of tablets permissible within a 24-hour timeframe. Almotriptan must be taken precisely as directed, neither exceeding nor reducing the prescribed dosage frequency.

For the initial dose of almotriptan, it may be recommended to administer it under medical supervision in a doctor’s office or another healthcare facility where potential serious reactions can be closely monitored.

Contact your doctor if your headaches fail to improve or occur with increased frequency subsequent to almotriptan usage.

Prolonged or excessive utilization of almotriptan beyond the recommended duration may exacerbate headaches or lead to an increased frequency of occurrence. Refrain from taking almotriptan or any other headache medication for more than ten days per month.

If the need arises to utilize almotriptan for the treatment of more than four headaches within a one-month period, consult your doctor.
