Description

Indications

Nateglinide is employed either independently or in conjunction with other medications to manage type 2 diabetes. This treatment is designed for individuals whose diabetes remains unmanageable through dietary and exercise measures alone. Nateglinide falls within the category of medications known as meglitinides. Its mechanism of action involves assisting the body in the regulation of glucose (sugar) levels in the bloodstream. It achieves this by promoting the release of insulin from the pancreas, thereby reducing the amount of glucose in circulation.

Uses and Dosage

Administer this medication orally, following your doctor’s instructions, typically 1 to 30 minutes prior to each major meal, with a usual frequency of three times daily. Do not ingest the medication any earlier than 30 minutes before your meal. If you intend to skip a meal, refrain from taking a dose of the medication at that time.

In the event that you consume liquid meals, it may be necessary to adjust the dosage of this medication to effectively manage your blood sugar levels. Consult your doctor for specific guidance in this regard.

The prescribed dosage is contingent upon your medical condition, the number of daily meals, and your individual response to the treatment.

To derive the maximum benefit from this medication, adhere to your doctor’s instructions by using it consistently. This involves strict adherence to the prescribed medication regimen, meal plan, and exercise program recommended by your healthcare provider.

As directed by your doctor, regularly monitor your blood sugar levels. Maintain a record of these results and share them with your doctor for determining the appropriate dosage. Inform your doctor if your blood sugar readings consistently fall outside the desired range, either excessively high or low, as your treatment plan may necessitate adjustments accordingly.

Caution

Before starting nateglinide, inform your healthcare provider or pharmacist of any allergies you may have, as well as any other known allergies. This product might contain inactive components that could trigger allergic reactions or other complications.

Prior to commencing this medication, share your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have a history of kidney disease, liver disease, or gout.

You might encounter blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness as a result of extremely low or high blood sugar levels. Do not engage in activities that require alertness or clear vision, such as driving or operating machinery, until you are confident in your ability to do so safely.

While taking this medication, limit alcohol consumption because it can heighten the risk of experiencing low blood sugar.

During periods of heightened stress, such as illness, infection, injury, or surgery, managing your blood sugar levels may become more challenging. Consult your doctor, as increased stress might necessitate adjustments to your treatment plan, medications, or blood sugar monitoring.

If you are pregnant, use this medication only if it is deemed necessary. Pregnancy can either induce or exacerbate diabetes. Collaborate with your doctor to establish a plan for controlling your blood sugar during pregnancy. Your diabetes treatment may need to be adjusted while you are pregnant. FAQ

If I skip a meal, do I still need to take Starlix?

If you skip a meal, you’ll need to skip that dose of Starlix. This medication causes your pancreas to release insulin within 20 minutes after you take it. If you’re not eating something after taking your dose, you don’t need the insulin to lower your blood sugars.

Why can’t I take Starlix if I have Type 1 diabetes?

Starlix works by making your pancreas release more insulin. But, people with Type 1 diabetes aren’t able to make enough insulin because their body (immune system) attacks their own pancreas.
