Description

Indications

Atomoxetine is an effective treatment for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as part of a comprehensive care plan. This medication helps enhance attention span, focus, concentration, and reduces fidgeting by balancing the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain.

Atomoxetine belongs to the class of selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors and works by increasing the levels of norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter responsible for controlling behavior. This medication is intended to be used in combination with psychological, social, and other treatments to improve attention and reduce impulsiveness and hyperactivity in both children and adults with ADHD.

Uses and Dosage

Atomoxetine is available in capsule form for oral consumption. Take the medication either once daily in the morning or twice a day, in the morning and late afternoon or early evening. You can take atomoxetine with or without food. Maintain a consistent schedule.

Take atomoxetine exactly as directed by your doctor and not to exceed the prescribed dosage. Swallow the capsules whole and avoid breaking, chewing, or crushing them. In case a capsule is accidentally broken, wash away the loose powder immediately with water. Avoid touching the powder and take extra precautions to prevent the powder from coming into contact with your eyes.

Your doctor will initiate treatment with a low dose of atomoxetine and gradually increase the dosage after a minimum of three days. Additional dosage increments may be made after two to four weeks of treatment. You may experience an improvement in your symptoms within the first week, but it may take up to one month for the full benefits of atomoxetine to be felt.

Atomoxetine is a treatment for the symptoms of ADHD and does not cure the condition. You should continue to take atomoxetine even if you are feeling well and should not discontinue use without first consulting with your doctor.

It is crucial to advise them of any preexisting medical conditions, such as a history of pheochromocytoma, bladder or prostate problems, glaucoma, heart conditions, family history of heart problems, high blood pressure, liver disease, or mental/mood disorders.

Long-term use of atomoxetine may have an impact on a child’s growth rate, weight, and final adult height. To minimize this risk, your doctor may recommend periodic interruption of the medication. Regularly monitor the child’s weight and height, and to consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist for further information.
