Drug Description:

This medicine is used with other medicines to treat HIV infection.Store in original bottle between 59 to 86 degrees F.How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of the medicine you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet that is provided with this medicine and reread it each time you get your prescription refilled. Before taking this medicine, talk with your health care provider about what medicines should not be taken with this medicine. This medicine must be taken with other medicines that treat HIV infection to be effective. This medicine may be taken with water, milk, or soda and with or without food. If a rash occurs while taking this medicine, stop taking this medicine and talk with your health care provider at once. Do not restart therapy with this medicine after experiencing a rash or liver problems without talking with your health care provider. Stop using this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if any of the following occur: Yellowing of the skin or eyes; tiredness; loss of appetite; dark urine; pale stools; liver tenderness. Contact your doctor at once if you develop rash with general ill feeling, fever, muscle or joint pain, blisters, mouth sores, swelling of the eye, swelling of the face, or tiredness. When your medicine supply begins to run low, get more from your doctor or pharmacy as soon as possible. The virus may develop resistance to this medicine if you stop taking it, even for a short period of time, and may become harder to treat. This medicine is not a cure for HIV infection and you may continue to acquire illnesses/infections associated with HIV infection. Remain under the care of your health care provider. This medicine offers no protection from the transmission of HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) to others through sexual contact or blood contamination. Use barrier forms of contraception (eg, condoms) if you are infected with HIV. Certain birth control pills may not be as effective while taking this medicine. Women taking birth control pills should use additional or other birth control measures (eg, condoms, diaphragms). HIV-infected mothers should not breastfeed their infants because of the risk of transmitting the HIV infection. This medicine may cause drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Lab tests will be required while taking this medicine, especially during the first 12 weeks of use. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medicine. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations (especially St. John’s wort) or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine

Severe Side Effects:

Most severe:  Swelling of the liver (yellowing of the skin or eyes; tiredness; loss of appetite; pale stools; dark urine); nausea; severe rash; fever; general body discomfort; muscle or joint pain; blisters; mouth sores; swelling of the eyelids; swelling of the face, blistering, peeling and loosening of skin.

Common Side Effects:

Most common:  Vomiting; diarrhea; nausea; tiredness; headache; fever, sore throat, sores, ulcers or white spots in mouth.

Other Side Effects:

  Muscle pain; drowsiness; stomach pain; abnormal skin sensations.
