Description

Indications

Zonisamide is utilized in conjunction with other medications to manage specific types of seizures. Categorized as an anticonvulsant medication, zonisamide functions by mitigating aberrant electrical activity within the brain.

Uses and Dosage

Zonisamide is administered orally in the form of capsules. It is typically taken once or twice a day, with or without food.

To ensure consistency, take zonisamide at approximately the same time(s) every day. Take zonisamide precisely as directed, and do not exceed or diminish the dosage or frequency without the guidance of your physician.

The capsules should be swallowed whole, without splitting, chewing, or crushing them.

Your doctor may initiate your treatment with a low dosage of zonisamide and gradually increase it, not exceeding once every two weeks.

Zonisamide may regulate your condition, but it does not cure it. It may take up to two weeks or longer before the full benefits of zonisamide become apparent. Continue taking zonisamide, even if you feel better.

Do not discontinue the medication without consulting your doctor, even if you encounter side effects such as abnormal alterations in mood or behavior. Abruptly ceasing zonisamide may worsen your seizures, and your physician will likely reduce your dose gradually.
