Description

Indications

Quinapril is indicated for the management of hypertension, either as monotherapy or in conjunction with other therapeutic agents. It is also utilized in combination with other medications to treat heart failure. Classified as an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, quinapril exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the activity of certain chemicals that induce vasoconstriction, leading to enhanced blood flow and improved cardiac function.

Uses and Dosage

Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully when taking this medication. It may be taken orally with or without food, typically once or twice daily.

High-fat meals may reduce the absorption of this medication.

To minimize the risk of side effects, your doctor may start you on a low dose and gradually increase your dose as necessary. Your dosage will depend on your medical condition and your response to treatment.

For optimal efficacy, take this medication regularly at the same time(s) each day. Continue taking this medication even if you feel well, as most individuals with high blood pressure do not experience any symptoms.

The full benefits of this medication may take up to 1-2 weeks to manifest for hypertension, and several weeks to months for heart failure.

This medication contains magnesium, which has the potential to interfere with the absorption of other medications. Consult your pharmacist for further information.

If your condition does not improve or worsens (e.g. persistent or elevated blood pressure readings), please inform your doctor.

Caution

Prior to taking quinapril, inform your doctor or pharmacist of any known allergies to this medication or other ACE inhibitors (e.g. benazepril), or any other allergies. Inactive ingredients contained in the product may cause allergic reactions or other issues.

Provide your medical history, particularly if it includes an allergic reaction that involved swelling of the face/lips/tongue/throat (angioedema), blood filtration procedures, high potassium levels, or liver disease, to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication.

This medication may induce dizziness, and alcohol or cannabis may exacerbate this effect. Do not operate heavy machinery or engage in activities that require alertness until you are certain that you can do so safely.

Excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting may lead to dehydration and increase the likelihood of lightheadedness. Report persistent diarrhea or vomiting to your doctor and ensure that you drink sufficient fluids unless instructed otherwise by your physician.

This product may raise your potassium levels. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium.

Older adults may be more vulnerable to the adverse effects of this drug, such as dizziness and increased potassium levels.

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, inform your doctor. Quinapril should not be used during pregnancy, as it may cause harm to the unborn child. If you become pregnant, speak with your doctor immediately to assess the risks and benefits of this medication.
