Description

Indications

Pyrantel is employed to treat infections caused by intestinal worms, including pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. Pyrantel belongs to a category of drugs called anthelmintics. Its mechanism of action involves rendering the worms incapable of movement, thereby inducing paralysis. This paralysis facilitates the natural removal of the worms from the body through stool.

Uses and Dosage

Before use, shake the medication well. Take it by mouth with or without food, following the guidance of your doctor.

Generally, this medication is taken once as a single dose or as directed by your doctor. It can be taken with milk or fruit juice, and there is no need to take a laxative with it.

The dosage depends on your weight, the type of infection, and your response to treatment. Do not exceed a total of 1 gram in a single dose. If self-treating for pinworms, take the medication only once; do not repeat the dose without consulting your doctor.

Depending on the type of worm infection, your doctor may instruct you to take the medication once or for several days. Your doctor might also advise repeating the dose in 2 weeks.

If you continue to observe worms in your stool, or if symptoms persist or worsen, or if you suspect a different type of worm infection or a serious medical issue, seek immediate medical attention.
