Description  

Paxil CR is prescribed for the treatment of depression, particularly major depression. This medication is an antidepressant that works by blocking serotonin reuptake. 

This medication is used to treat panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. 

Paxil CR Dosage  

In individuals with MDD, PD, or SAD, the suggested starting and maximum Paxil CR dosages are as follows: 

Major Depressive Order  

  • Starting Dose: Paxil CR 25 mg  
  • Maximum Dose: 62.5 mg  

Panic Disorder  

  • Starting Dose: 12.5 mg  
  • Maximum Dose: 75 mg  

Social Anxiety Disorder  

  • Starting Dose: 25 mg  
  • Maximum Dose: 37.5 mg

Direction

  • Do not crush, chew, or break the extended-release pill; swallow it whole. 
  • Give the oral suspension (liquid) a vigorous shake before measuring a dosage. Use the syringe that comes with the medication or a dose-measuring device from a pharmacy (not a kitchen spoon). 
  • Your symptoms may take up to four weeks to improve. You should contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after taking the prescription as prescribed. 
  • If you notice any changes in your sexual function, such as a lack of desire in sex, difficulty achieving an orgasm, or (in males) issues with erections or ejaculation, contact your doctor right once. Some sexual problems can be treated. 

Paxil CR Side Effects  

Some of the most prevalent side effects are as follows: 

  • Changes in vision; 
  • Sluggishness, sleepiness, dizziness, and exhaustion; 
  • Perspiration, nervousness, and trembling 
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia); 
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation; lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation; 
  • Yawning, dry mouth 
  • Infection; 
  • Or a headache 
  • Impotence, abnormal ejaculation, or difficulties achieving an orgasm are all symptoms of diminished sex desire. 

Caution  

  • If you’re taking pimozide or thioridazine, you shouldn’t take this medication. 
  • Do not use this medication if you’ve recently taken an MAO inhibitor like isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine 
  • Some young people develop suicidal thoughts when they first start taking an antidepressant. Any changes in your mood or symptoms should be closely monitored. Any new or worsening symptoms should be reported to your doctor. 
  • If you have symptoms like agitation, hallucinations, muscular stiffness, twitching, lack of coordination, disorientation, warmth or tingling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sweating, tremors, racing heartbeats, or a seizure, get medical help immediately.
