Indications
This combination medication is employed for the treatment of skin infections and alleviation of symptoms like redness, irritation, swelling, and itching resulting from the infection. Neomycin and gramicidin act as antibiotics, inhibiting bacterial growth. Nystatin functions as an antifungal agent, impeding the growth of fungi and yeasts. Triamcinolone, a corticosteroid, aids in diminishing skin redness, swelling, and itching.
Uses and Dosage
This medication is intended for external use on the skin only. Before application, ensure your hands are clean. Avoid contact with the eyes or mouth; if accidental contact occurs, promptly wipe off the medication and rinse thoroughly with water. Refrain from applying inside the nose unless specifically directed by your doctor.
Clean and dry the affected area according to instructions. Apply a small amount of the medication in a thin layer on the skin and gently rub it in as directed by your doctor, typically 2 to 3 times daily. After application, wash your hands thoroughly.
Do not cover the treated area with bandages, wraps, or any covering unless instructed by your doctor. If applying to the groin area, avoid tight-fitting plastic pants, diapers, or incontinence garments, as this may enhance absorption through the skin and increase the risk of side effects.
Follow the prescribed dosage and application frequency carefully. Avoid using excessive amounts, applying more frequently, or extending the duration of use beyond the recommended period. Increasing usage beyond instructions may not expedite improvement and could heighten the risk of side effects.
Consistently use this medication to derive maximum benefit. Establish a routine by applying it at the same times each day.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens after one week of use.
Side Effects
Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention:
- itching, burning, dryness
- skin irritation
- excessive hair growth
- spots that look like acne
- skin rash
- changes in the colour of the skin
- stretch marks
Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any serious side effects:
- ringing in the ears
- hearing difficulties
- problems with your balance
- severe fluid retention
- passing less urine than normal
- eye problems e.g. cataracts, glaucoma and blurred vision.
- shortness of breath
- wheezing or difficulty breathing
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
- rash, itching or hives on the skin
Caution
- Before using this product, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any allergies to its ingredients or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other issues.
- This medication should not be utilized to treat an infection in the outer ear canal if the eardrum is torn (perforated) or if the inner ear is infected.
- Prior to using this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have poor blood circulation, a weakened immune system, other skin conditions (such as eczema, psoriasis, viral skin infections like shingles, chickenpox, cold sores), or tuberculosis.
- Rarely, prolonged or extensive use of corticosteroid medications can diminish your body’s ability to respond to physical stress. Before undergoing surgery, emergency treatment, or if you experience a serious illness/injury, inform your doctor or dentist if you are currently using or have used this medication in the past few months.
- Although it is unlikely, long-term use of this medication may temporarily inhibit a child’s growth. Ensure regular check-ups with the doctor to monitor your child’s height.
- During pregnancy, this medication should only be used when absolutely necessary. Discuss the potential risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is uncertain whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.

How long can you use Kenacomb Ointment for?
Your doctor will tell you how long you need to use Kenacomb Ointment. Even if symptoms improve within the first few days of treatment, you should not interrupt or stop Kenacomb Ointment until the prescribed course of treatment has been completed.
Can you put Kenacomb Ointment on an open wound?
No. Do not put Kenacomb Ointment on skin that is cut or bleeding.
