Prucalopride is indicated for the treatment of chronic constipation, particularly in cases where prior interventions, such as the use of laxatives, have not yielded the desired outcome. Prucalopride is in a class of medications called serotonin receptor agonists and it exerts its therapeutic effect by improving how well your stomach and intestines move food through the bowels during digestion.

Uses and Dosage

The administration of this medication should be in accordance with your physician’s instructions, with or without food, typically once daily.

The dosage is determined based on your age, medical history, and therapeutic response, with a standard dose of 2 milligrams per day.

For optimal results, take this medication regularly and at the same time each day. In the event that constipation persists for 3 to 4 days despite treatment, inform your healthcare provider. Your physician may recommend the temporary use of additional medication, such as a stimulant laxative, in conjunction with prucalopride to achieve rapid relief from constipation. Adhere to your physician’s instructions for the use of any supplementary medication.
